Have you ever walked by something then suddenly took a few steps backwards to see what it was?  That was me with this product!  This was new to me and I had heard nothing about it.  I picked up the colour 105 Gel-Ful for about $8 CAD.  My first thought was how similar it looked to Too Faced Melted Lipsticks.

The squeeze tube brings the lipstick up through the sponge tip applicator.  It is a bit stiff, but it applied the lipstick quite nicely.  I needed two coats for full opacity.  The website suggests you blot after application, but if you don’t put too much on, there is really no need to.

This is not a long wearing product, but it did manage hold some colour through a coffee and later some lunch.  Touch ups are easy and does not build up or flake.  There was a handful of odd colours to choose from ranging from brown to blue, bright purples and some reds.  This one was the only one I would consider nude and it leans more on the warm peach side.  This colour is also quite different from the colour of the tube which looks a little more pink mauve.  It’s a nice lipstick, it’s comfortable and it wears well, you can’t ask for more than that!

New products at Walmart, of course I had to stop and take a look.  I found this palette interesting because it had some fairly light and neutral colours in it and I liked them all.  I bought it for $9.97 CAD.

This palette has a highlighter, two blushes and a bronzer (FYI-the picture in the bottom right hand corner is much darker than the actual palette).  The blushes look fairly similar, but no so on the face.  The highlighter is also natural and very pretty.  The bronzer is just right for my skin tone.  An awesome feature is that the squares of product are removable and if you have another Elf palette, you can completely customize it with the colours you use most often.  The products wear very well and keep their colour all day long without oxidizing.  This face palette is extremely natural looking, but all of the products are buildable if you need a more intense look.  The packaging looks great as well, it’s sleek and silver and has a mirror in the lid.  For under $10 this palette is a great deal with usable pretty colours.

I never realized that e.l.f. had more than one lip exfoliator.  My favourite one had big chunks of sugar in it and I thought this one was just a different flavour.  I picked it up at Walmart for $3.97 CAD.  I had it for awhile before I gave it a try and I was very surprised that this formula had a completely different texture.

Besides having a mint flavour this one had very fine granules of sugar imbedded into the product.  Although I loved the one I had always used, this one was so much easier to use.  It glided on easily and just a couple of passes on the lips and the job was complete!  The mint flavour and tingling was a nice bonus.  I removed the excess with a face cloth.  Although there are plenty of moisturizing ingredients, I still had to follow up with a balm after treatment.  There were also different flavours available and I’m not sure if they all have the same texture as this one but you better believe, I will be looking for them!  This is a quick, effective and inexpensive lip exfoliant, you really can’t pass this one by!

Impulse buy.  I saw it and I decided I needed to try it.  I picked up the colour Deep Blue for $9.97 at Walmart.  I’ve been looking for a good mascara lately and I’m not finding what I want, I was hoping this one was a game changer for me.

The colour Deep Blue was quite a bit lighter than I thought it might be and I immediately thought I had made a mistake.  It actually dries quite a bit darker without losing the blue colour.  I love it!  The scary wand was something I thought I might have to work with, but I managed to get long lashes on the first try, I was quite impressed!  I don’t use the small bristles on the opposite side of the brush, but I think it would be handy if you had some hard to reach lashes.  I did not get the waterproof version and the mascara stayed on all day without smudging, I did have some slight flaking though.  I started using it with a primer and I’ve had no flaking since.  I like the length I get with this mascara and I also really like the wand, it’s working quite well for me and I have not reached for another mascara since buying this one.  I finally feel like I’ve found a mascara that gives me exactly the look I want, long lashes without clumps and I really like the fact that it’s blue as well!

I was looking for a purple blush and didn’t want to spend a lot of money on one in case it was something that didn’t work on me.  I found this one in the United States at Walmart for $4.68 USD.  Surprise, surprise!!!  I love this blush!

I was thinking that with the purple and orchid lipsticks I owned that this might be a lovely complimentary product, it’s much better than that!  It goes with everything.  The ombré blush consists of a pale pink, a light purple and another light purple with some sheen in it.  Mixed together, it becomes a lovely light lilac colour that doesn’t come off as purple as you might think it should.  It has been flattering with everything I have worn it with.  The powder is soft and smooth to the touch and is very easily applied and blended.  It builds well without looking overdone.  It wears very nicely throughout the day without fading or oxidizing.  I don’t know it’s available in Canada, but I do know that next time I cross the border, I’ll be buying every colour I can get my hands on!  It really is a great product at a great price!

A spur of the moment cross border shopping trip made me wildly happy as I found some products that I haven’t been able to find in Canada yet.  I found a fantastic Wet n Wild display at Walmart and was happy to see a large selection of their new foundation in stock.  There was such a good range of colours and I didn’t want to go home with a wrong one so I bought two.  I picked up Shell Ivory which is a fair neutral and I picked up Buff Bisque which is a light medium neutral.  They were only $4.68 USD each.  I figured I could darken up the lighter one if it was too fair, but the Shell Ivory turned out to be a great match and I’m sure the Buff Bisque will work great when summer arrives and my skin darkens up a bit.

I am so impressed that the colours came in cool, neutral and warm tones, I have never seen that range in an affordable foundation before.  The foundation has a strong chemical smell right out of the bottle, but it disappates immediately after application.  There is a paddle applicator which I don’t mind, I apply it straight to my freshly washed face.  If you are afraid of contaminating the product, you could drip some on the back of your hand or onto a brush or sponge instead.

Depending on the amount applied, you can get light to medium coverage.  I find that it applies quite nicely, but remains slightly tacky as it dries down.  As I have oily skin, I always set my foundation with a powder, so I have no problems with this.  The finish is quite lovely, in fact, I find myself admiring it every time I look in the mirror.  I have had many compliments on my great skin too!  It wears nicely throughout the day and even though it does nothing to help my oily skin, it also doesn’t break down because of it.  This foundation is fantastic for the price and the colour range is extraordinary too.  After wearing it for just one week, I’ve tossed all of my other foundations into a drawer.  The only downside, like I mentioned, is the smell.  If you can get past that, I think if you give this a try, it will surely become a favourite!

A while ago a friend of mine bought a lash primer from a high end brand and told me how fantastic it was.  I had never used a lash primer before and didn’t feel I needed one until recently and I remembered my friend telling me how much it improved the look of her lashes and I thought it might be time to try one.  I decided to go with a more inexpensive option and bought one from Wet n Wild for $5.97 CAD at Walmart.

I’m not sure how a primer for lashes is supposed to work and I’m not sure if it’s really just a white mascara but when I used it I saw significant length improvement when I applied my mascara over top of it.  This primer has a medium consistancy and is not clumpy when applied to the lashes.  It dries quite quickly and does not dry bright white but more of a dark cream colour.  I’ve been applying two coats of the primer and follow up with one coat of mascara.  Everything stays in place all day long with no smudging or flaking, and best of all, my lashes still look long by day’s end.  I’ve tried it with several brands and have had great results with all of them.  Some of the mascaras I didn’t like and were too clumpy went on like a dream when using this primer.  If you feel like you need a little help in the lash department, give this product try, it’s priced right and it works!

I just sort of stumbled across this product in Walmart and having never seen it before, picked it up for $9.96 CAD in the colour 314 Spicy Blush.  It wasn’t until I got it home and opened and swatched it that I realized it was very similar to the Infallible Pro Matte Gloss.

It has a sweet fruity smell to it which I like.  The applicator has a bit of a curve to it which hold the appropriate amount of product needed for application.  The colour is beautiful.  It applies easily and smoothly and wears quite nicely. It stays on somewhat during eating and reapplies over itself without any buildup.  If I put this side by side with the Infallible Pro Matte Gloss, I would barely be able to tell the difference.  They both have the same smell, they both apply in the same way and both wear away to a matte finish.  Both are comfortable on the lips.  This one seems to wear longer, it may be a tad thicker and the price point is cheaper and you get more product in this one.  I’d say if you are trying to decide between the two, pick this one.  My review on the Pro Matte Gloss can be found here if you are interested in checking it out!

I had heard some good things about this mascara and decided to give it a try.  I picked it up for $6.97 CAD at Walmart in the colour black.  My lashes have seemed on the short side lately and I have been having problems getting the length I want using some mascaras.

I tend to favour rubber bristle brushes and one on the thinner side and this one has both, but it also has an odd placement of the bristles as well.  The bristles are concentrated on two sides and the application of the product requires a twirling motion to get the length.  There is a learning curve with this mascara.  My first application, I obviously didn’t twirl enough and ended up with stubby black eyelashes.  Each time I used it, I progressively got the length and I also jabbed myself in the eye and and would get mascara on my eyelid and thin lines from the bristles on my upper waterline.  I kept at it and over a few weeks, I think I have the application down pat now.  I seem to have to really work on the application and it takes me more time than I want to spend putting on mascara.  The twirling motion tends to place a lot of product at the base of the lashes, which yes, does make your lashes look thicker, but I still don’t get the length I desire.  The mascara wears very well, I’ve had no smudging or smearing and absolutely no flaking.  Taking it off is easy, I just use a wet facecloth and it comes off easily without tugging at my lashes.  For me, this is an okay mascara, it’s just not giving me the look I want for all the work needed to apply it.

I sort of hit a skin care jackpot when I bought this product!  I went into Walmart just after the new year and found this in the clearance section.  $19.97 for two products is an excellent deal as each of these products are sold separately at this price.  Curious as to why it was in the clearance section I scanned it and it came up at $5 CAD!  It must have been a value pack for Christmas and I was getting it at quite the deal!!!

I have not used the tube with the SPF and will review that at a different time if it has any significant differences.

Even though I have oily skin, the winter weather can play havoc with it and it can also become very dry.  This product has Hyaluronic Acid which is supposed to deliver incredible moisture to the skin.  The cream does have a runny gel like consistancy.  The smell is not my favourite, it reminds me of laundry detergent and or fabric softener and or clorinated water, but it does disappate quite quickly and I’m getting used to it.  The cream is quite easily applied and a little bit goes a very long way.  That little bit in the picture was enough to do my entire hand.  Once it is applied and absorbed into the skin, it is not wet, slick or sticky.  The performance of this product is quite amazing on me.  After using it for well over a week, my skin is hydrated, smooth and just on a whole looks really nice.  My makeup even looks better and I look better without makeup too!  I have quietly tucked away my other moisturizers and am using only this now.  I am totally impressed with this cream and equally happy that I got it at such a bargain price!
