Honest product reviews for the savvy consumer.

I was visiting a bareMinerals outlet when I ran across a kit where I wanted the blush and the lipstick that was included.  The associate told me it also came with foundation of my choice.  I wanted to try something new and was drawn to this product.  I expressed my hesitation to the associate that it was a hydrating cream and I have very oily skin, we looked at the other foundation choices available and decided that this one would be the best option.  I chose the colour 02 Vanilla.

All of the colours seemed to run on the yellow side, and this colour is for fair neutral skin.  I must say at I was quite surprised that it blended so well with my skin tone.  I tried both Beauty Blender and a brush for application and found that I liked the coverage better with a brush.  The coverage is sheer to light, but it can be built up to a medium coverage.  The finish is beautiful and weightless.  I used Mineral Veil as a setting powder and it’s one of the prettiest finishes in a lightweight foundation that I have ever seen!

What surprised me the most is that my skin did not get hyper oily while wearing this foundation and it lasted beautifully all day long.  I am happy I decided to give this tinted hydrating gel cream a try.  I checked the Sephora website for a price and it goes for $37 CAD.  With an SPF of 30 and being so weightless it’s very much like a BB cream that acts like a foundation, I’ll definitely have to stock up next time I’m at the outlet!

I put off writing this review for a few days so that I could put into words how I felt about it.  Topbox this month came in a purple bubble wrap mailer this month, so I was a little excited about this small change.  Another change is that the information card that you usually receive is now an exclusive offer card with discount codes.  The information about the items are now sent in an e-mail.  When I opened my pretty package this month I was shocked and angry that it was so similar to the one I received in April.

I couldn’t believe that I had identical products sent to me from two months ago.  I had mentioned before that I wished that there was more brand variety with Topbox, but this month’s bag didn’t even give me item variety!

I received an Ofra Lipliner in Wine.  This is the exactly the same as the the one I received in April, colour and all.  I received a pūr~lisse sheet mask and I had received the eye treatment in April.

I received a Popbeauty pigment in metallic charcoal, I received a sparkly white one in April.  I’ll never use them.

I received a Mineral Peel Face treatment from O.R.G. Skincare.  I’ve used something similar to this before, so I’ll be interested to see how this one works.

This was a completely horrible bag for me, so just after I opened it I e-mailed Topbox with my concerns and I also sent them a link to April’s bag  for comparison purposes.  I got a reply that apologized and said that they will send me some replacement items in my July bag.  I’m completely happy with that response and will be excited to receive my next bag now.  I believed that they kept track of things you received, but I’m not so sure now.  I also thought that they curated the bags specifically for the month or season and I’m not sure about that either.  For whatever the reason, I received duplicate products, they said they will fix it and I’m happy with the customer service I received…anyone need an Ofra Lip Pencil in Wine…

I am no stranger to self tanning.  I have tried many products for many years and had great successes and horrible failures.  I received a deluxe sample of this product in a Sephora Favorites Bronze Bares All set.  It did not come with an application mitt, so I just used an old sock.  I did end up purchasing the full size of the product for $55 CAD from the Shopping Channel and a mitt was included.

I was quite impressed with the result I achieved using this self tanner.  It’s a mousse formula that comes out brown.  It boasts that there is no self tanner smell, but I did detect the faintest smell which was not bothersome at all.  You apply to clean exfoiliated skin in circular motions and wait a few hours, in my case I do it before bed and I wake up with a glowing tan.  I have applied to non exfoliated skin and had great results as well.

The mousse dries extremely quickly and does not transfer on to bedding or clothing.  It is recommended to apply 3 times to get the best results in colour.  I have fair skin and I bought the medium colour, so 2 applications work very well for me.  I found that the tan lasts nicely for about 2 weeks on me and the colour is very natural.  I have had no problems with streaking at all.  With some experimenting, I have figured out how to get the colour that best suits my skin tone.  I apply one time, wait a few days and apply again.  I then reapply as needed.

The only downside to this product is that it is very expensive.  I have been able to get 5 uses from the the deluxe sample and there is still some left.  The big bottle I bought retails at Sephora for $105 CAD, it just happened to be the Showstopper on the Shopping Channel when I bought it.  The mitt is also quite low quality, it did the job, but it leaked through the top.  My sock method worked better but probably absorbed a lot of the product.

This self tanner surpasses my previous favourite method which was tan towelettes.  The large bottle will easily last me through the summer and probably into next summer as well, because of the cost, look for a sale to get the best value for your money.

When I bought my Bronze Bares All set, it came with a full size Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Trail Blazer.  I have been a fan of this lipgloss for many years and decided to check to see what others I had in my stash.  I had three other colours, but I believe that two may have been limited edition.

This lipgloss retails for $18 CAD.  It has a very minty smell and when applied to the lips it gives a tingling sensation.  The tingling will fade away eventually.  These lip glosses are smooth and not one bit sticky, the wear time is average for a lipgloss, and it will need to be reapplied throughout the day.

Trail Blazer is a peach with shimmer.  I didn’t think that it would look good on me, but when applied to the lips, it gives a lovely hint of colour that is quite flattering.

Maverick is a brown colour with shimmer.  Although it seems like a dark colour and more opaque than the other colours, it actually is very pretty when applied.

I believe Survivor may have been a limited edition lipgloss.  It’s a pretty creme pink.

Heartbreaker is a warm pink with shimmer, I believe this one may have been a limited edition as well.  I really enjoy using these glosses, but there really are some others on the market that are less expensive and very comparable.  If you find a deal on these though, I think you’ll be happy with them.

I received this in my Bronze Bares All box that I purchased from Sephora.  I had heard a lot of hype about this product and let me tell you, that hype is real!  I’ve not had good luck finding a bronzer that works with my fair freckled skin that tans somewhat in the summer.  Most bronzers look orange or muddy on me and don’t match the colour of my skin when tanned.  This is a sample size product, the full size at Sephora is $52 CAD.

This bronzer is brown with a soft golden shimmer in it.  It’s extremely creamy and a little goes a long way.  When I use it on my face, it does not look glittery or shimmery, it just gives a sun kissed glow that matches what’s going on with the rest of my skin.

I’m extremely impressed with this bronzer and I know I would have never tried it if I hadn’t bought the kit.  The sample size should last me a very long time, but I will purchase the full size when my sample runs out!

I received this in my Bronze Bares All box that I purchase from Sephora, where it retails for $25 CAD.  This is a wonderfully smooth and creamy eyeliner in the colour Penny Lane.  It goes on beautifully, is waterproof and doesn’t budge once it’s applied.

I absolutely love this liner but realized that I have something quite similar in my collection that I’ve reviewed before.  It’s the Annabelle Stay Sharp Waterproof Kohl liner, you can find my review here.  This product is Canadian and is so similar I thought I would do a comparison of the two.  Annabelle’s Stay Sharp retails for $9.95 CAD.

The names are very much the same, the packaging is identical and both are made in Germany.  They both have the sharpener inside the lid, so when you turn eyeliner with the lid on and then remove it, you’ll have a sharp tip to work with.

I don’t have identical colours, but the metallic formulas look very much the same.  They wear and remove the same way.  The only difference I can see is the Smashbox one is much more creamy to apply.  If you are looking to save some money, you’ll get the same result with the Annabelle product, but for ease of application, Smashbox wins!

I saw this and I thought it was a great way for me to try some products I have been curious about.  It’s a limited edition Sephora exclusive for $48 CAD.  It comes with 8 products and three of them are full sized and the rest are generous deluxe samples.

I’m going to do a blog review on each product and I’ll link them when each one goes up, so this is really an unboxing.  I have to say that I’m really enjoying these products and found that everything has suited my fair skin very well!

Included in this kit is a Vita Liberata Tan Mousse in medium and a Nars Bronzing Powder in Laguna.

I have wanted to try this product forever, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal.

You receive a gorgeous nail polish by Formula X – Revved Up in Rose Gold.

You also get two lip products, Tarte Amazonian butter lipstick in Park Ave. Princess and a full size BareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Trail Blazer.

Two eye products are included as well!  A full size Smashbox waterproof eyeliner in Penny Lane and a full size Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Copper.

These products when used together have given me a glowy natural bronzed face without looking like I have been baking in the sun all day.  I think it’s a great value for the money as the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick costs $35 CAD if you bought it alone and the BareMinerals lipgloss is $23 CAD.  It is limited edition, so who knows how long they will be around!
