Honest product reviews for the savvy consumer.

I received these products for review through Glam Sense.  I have very curly hair and I straighten it often.  Keeping the “straightness” in is often a challenge, so I was excited to try these products to see how they would work.

I have to say that my first use of these products ended up in total straight hair disaster.  I’ve used similar products for years, so I just went ahead and washed my hair with the shampoo, put on the conditioner, which I always leave on for as long as possible, once that was rinsed out, I put in the primer.  My first indication that something had gone wrong was that my hair didn’t seem to want to dry, when I finally got to the styling part, it seemed greasy and really unmanageable.  Dry shampoo to the rescue and I put my hair up into a bun THEN I read the instructions on the bottles.  Oooops, user error.

Once I followed the instructions properly, I had much better success!  The shampoo part, I did that right.  The conditioner doesn’t say to leave on the hair, so I applied it from root to tip and rinsed immediately.  The primer is not to to be applied all over (which I did) and one pump is to be used (I used several).  The primer is to be smoothed from mid strand to the tip.  I let my hair air dry and it was much straighter.  When I used the flat iron on it, straightening was quick and easy.  My hair felt very smooth and silky and smelled really good as well.

I’ve used these products 3 times in the past 10 days and have come to some conclusions.  Curly hair is going to want to curl.  I walked in misty fog one day for half an hour and although it did not go frizzy, it got big and puffy.  I was able to straighten it again easily afterwards.  When not exposed to direct dampness, my hair stayed straight and smooth easily for 3 days, it may have lasted longer, if I would have just stop touching it and running my fingers through it.

As you can see, once I used the products correctly, I was pleased with the results!  They retail for around $10 CAD which is more expensive than a lot of shampoos and conditioners, but less than half the price of some straightening products that I use now.  If your hair gets frizzy easily and you wish it would stay smoother longer, I think these products would be worth trying.

I just sort of stumbled across this product in Walmart and having never seen it before, picked it up for $9.96 CAD in the colour 314 Spicy Blush.  It wasn’t until I got it home and opened and swatched it that I realized it was very similar to the Infallible Pro Matte Gloss.

It has a sweet fruity smell to it which I like.  The applicator has a bit of a curve to it which hold the appropriate amount of product needed for application.  The colour is beautiful.  It applies easily and smoothly and wears quite nicely. It stays on somewhat during eating and reapplies over itself without any buildup.  If I put this side by side with the Infallible Pro Matte Gloss, I would barely be able to tell the difference.  They both have the same smell, they both apply in the same way and both wear away to a matte finish.  Both are comfortable on the lips.  This one seems to wear longer, it may be a tad thicker and the price point is cheaper and you get more product in this one.  I’d say if you are trying to decide between the two, pick this one.  My review on the Pro Matte Gloss can be found here if you are interested in checking it out!

I had heard some good things about this mascara and decided to give it a try.  I picked it up for $6.97 CAD at Walmart in the colour black.  My lashes have seemed on the short side lately and I have been having problems getting the length I want using some mascaras.

I tend to favour rubber bristle brushes and one on the thinner side and this one has both, but it also has an odd placement of the bristles as well.  The bristles are concentrated on two sides and the application of the product requires a twirling motion to get the length.  There is a learning curve with this mascara.  My first application, I obviously didn’t twirl enough and ended up with stubby black eyelashes.  Each time I used it, I progressively got the length and I also jabbed myself in the eye and and would get mascara on my eyelid and thin lines from the bristles on my upper waterline.  I kept at it and over a few weeks, I think I have the application down pat now.  I seem to have to really work on the application and it takes me more time than I want to spend putting on mascara.  The twirling motion tends to place a lot of product at the base of the lashes, which yes, does make your lashes look thicker, but I still don’t get the length I desire.  The mascara wears very well, I’ve had no smudging or smearing and absolutely no flaking.  Taking it off is easy, I just use a wet facecloth and it comes off easily without tugging at my lashes.  For me, this is an okay mascara, it’s just not giving me the look I want for all the work needed to apply it.

I found this at Shoppers Drug Mart and I had no idea it even existed.  I know there is a lot of love given to the Butter Bronzer, but I was never interested in buying it as I don’t wear bronzers that often.  It was on sale for $12.49 CAD and has a $7 mail in rebate, works out to a great price!  I picked up the colour Plum Rose.  I wanted the Natural Glow colour because it was a peach tone, but with so many peach colours in my collection I decided to try something different.

The packaging is very cute and tropical and I’m always a sucker for anything tropical.  The smell reminds of toasted coconut, which is pleasant.  The texture of the product is extremely soft and smooth.  As with most Physicians Formula products with this packaging there is a hidden brush compartment and mirror underneath the product.

There is a very different applicator with two sides, one is to apply the product and the other is to blend.  I tried it once and didn’t care for it, so back into the hidden compartment it went.  This particular colour is quite light.  I have pretty fair skin and I have a hard time getting this to show up on it.  It blends well, but gives such a natural coverage, it doesn’t look like I’m wearing blush.  On me, this is more suited to be a product to warm up my skin tone.  It did oxidize on me ever so slightly, which is the first time I will say that it was a good thing, because I could actually see it.  Even though it doesn’t show up very well on me, I’ve still been using it frequently, so I’ll attribute that to the subtle natural glow it does give to my skin.  If the Butter Bronzers are too dark or brown for your skin tone, this might be a viable alternative!

My Topbox arrived and I was hoping that it was better than last month’s and I can honestly say yes it is!

I received some products that I already have and love, so I’m okay with that.

I’ve reviewed both of these products before.  The Garnier Micellar Water is a really healthy sample size, I’ll put it aside for when I’m done my full sized bottle.  Seche Vite is my very favourite fast dry topcoat.  This teeny tiny size will be my back up because I always like to have one on hand in case the one I’m using gets too thick.

Three months in a row I have received a product from Bella Aura Skincare, I’ve thrown the last two samples out and threw this one out as well.  It just smells horrible to me.  I was very happy to receive 3 packets of Voesh Pedicure Mud Mask.  I have never tried anything like this and I’m excited to do so!

A repeat brand with this product, but I love blushes so I was happy to receive it.  It’s a silky blush and has lovely deep coral and golden highlight tones to it.  I can’t wait to give it a try!

Other than the Bella Aura Skincare product, I’m completely pleased with this month’s bag.  Hopefully Topbox has run out of the Bella Aura, because I don’t want to receive anymore products from this brand.

I have three Sephora lipsticks and I thought it might be time to review them.  A sample size one was received in a Give Me Some Bold Lip set and I’ve decided to review each of those products separately.  The other two full size products I was able to get on sale, one for $10 CAD and another for $7 CAD.

As it turns out, even though these are all different finishes, I like each one!

Private Jet has a glossiness that I really enjoy in a lipstick.  The colour is a nice nude with some tiny flakes of silver throughout.  It lasts about average on me and as it wears away you will have a sparse silvery glitter remaining.  It has an awesome fruity scent to it.

Drunk in Love I bought because it closely resembled a Dior lipgloss that I liked but didn’t want to spend the money on.  This one has a bit of sheerness to it and also has those silver sparkles in it as well.  I like the way this colour fades away, it tends to stain a bit and I like the look of the flushed lips it leaves behind.  Drunk in Love also has that nice fruity scent.

Belly Dancing is a more matte colour, it’s creamy when applied but as it wears it becomes a bit dry, but still comfortable. This one is the longest wearing of the the three, and stays on okay through meals.  All three lipsticks touch up very well and I’m completely happy with all of the formulas.  Some of the lipsticks are still on sale on the Sephora website at the time I am writing this blog, you may want to check them out.

I sort of hit a skin care jackpot when I bought this product!  I went into Walmart just after the new year and found this in the clearance section.  $19.97 for two products is an excellent deal as each of these products are sold separately at this price.  Curious as to why it was in the clearance section I scanned it and it came up at $5 CAD!  It must have been a value pack for Christmas and I was getting it at quite the deal!!!

I have not used the tube with the SPF and will review that at a different time if it has any significant differences.

Even though I have oily skin, the winter weather can play havoc with it and it can also become very dry.  This product has Hyaluronic Acid which is supposed to deliver incredible moisture to the skin.  The cream does have a runny gel like consistancy.  The smell is not my favourite, it reminds me of laundry detergent and or fabric softener and or clorinated water, but it does disappate quite quickly and I’m getting used to it.  The cream is quite easily applied and a little bit goes a very long way.  That little bit in the picture was enough to do my entire hand.  Once it is applied and absorbed into the skin, it is not wet, slick or sticky.  The performance of this product is quite amazing on me.  After using it for well over a week, my skin is hydrated, smooth and just on a whole looks really nice.  My makeup even looks better and I look better without makeup too!  I have quietly tucked away my other moisturizers and am using only this now.  I am totally impressed with this cream and equally happy that I got it at such a bargain price!
