New products at Walmart, of course I had to stop and take a look. I found this palette interesting because it had some fairly light and neutral colours in it and I liked them all. I bought it for $9.97 CAD.
This palette has a highlighter, two blushes and a bronzer (FYI-the picture in the bottom right hand corner is much darker than the actual palette). The blushes look fairly similar, but no so on the face. The highlighter is also natural and very pretty. The bronzer is just right for my skin tone. An awesome feature is that the squares of product are removable and if you have another Elf palette, you can completely customize it with the colours you use most often. The products wear very well and keep their colour all day long without oxidizing. This face palette is extremely natural looking, but all of the products are buildable if you need a more intense look. The packaging looks great as well, it’s sleek and silver and has a mirror in the lid. For under $10 this palette is a great deal with usable pretty colours.
Last day of the month and I’m finally posting my Topbox. I had a chance to try out a couple of items, and I thought it was a great selection of products for me this time around!
I think everyone received a complimentary Optic White toothbrush with whitener. I haven’t tried it yet, but I love the extras that Topbox has been including lately! As soon as I replace my toothbrush, this is the one I’m going to use.
I received a package of Eyeko Mascara Off eye makeup remover wipes. I can’t wait to try them. It’s a nice twist to makeup remover wipes and sometimes I just have too much budgeproof eyeliner and mascara on, so I’m sure these will be helpful on days like that!
I also received a Face Shop Character Mask. Perfect, I love sheet masks and looking like a pig instead of a mummy will be a nice treat!
I received a lip balm made by Barefoot Venus and it’s called Lip Bliss. I have never heard of this company before. It was supposed to have a grapefruit flavour to it, but I couldn’t detect it. It’s an okay balm. The packaging is sort of The Balm-esque, (making up my own words now) featuring a pin up girl. It has cardboard packaging and a push up tube.
Lastly a nail polish, I have been so into Jamberry lately, I haven’t worn much polish. This is a dark vampy colour by Trind North America. I did wear it, it applied nicely but chipped after a few days…back to my two week Jamberry’s I guess!
I’m very pleased with what I received, I love when you feel like you got more than your money’s worth. This month for me is a fine example of that!
I never realized that e.l.f. had more than one lip exfoliator. My favourite one had big chunks of sugar in it and I thought this one was just a different flavour. I picked it up at Walmart for $3.97 CAD. I had it for awhile before I gave it a try and I was very surprised that this formula had a completely different texture.
Besides having a mint flavour this one had very fine granules of sugar imbedded into the product. Although I loved the one I had always used, this one was so much easier to use. It glided on easily and just a couple of passes on the lips and the job was complete! The mint flavour and tingling was a nice bonus. I removed the excess with a face cloth. Although there are plenty of moisturizing ingredients, I still had to follow up with a balm after treatment. There were also different flavours available and I’m not sure if they all have the same texture as this one but you better believe, I will be looking for them! This is a quick, effective and inexpensive lip exfoliant, you really can’t pass this one by!
Impulse buy. I saw it and I decided I needed to try it. I picked up the colour Deep Blue for $9.97 at Walmart. I’ve been looking for a good mascara lately and I’m not finding what I want, I was hoping this one was a game changer for me.
The colour Deep Blue was quite a bit lighter than I thought it might be and I immediately thought I had made a mistake. It actually dries quite a bit darker without losing the blue colour. I love it! The scary wand was something I thought I might have to work with, but I managed to get long lashes on the first try, I was quite impressed! I don’t use the small bristles on the opposite side of the brush, but I think it would be handy if you had some hard to reach lashes. I did not get the waterproof version and the mascara stayed on all day without smudging, I did have some slight flaking though. I started using it with a primer and I’ve had no flaking since. I like the length I get with this mascara and I also really like the wand, it’s working quite well for me and I have not reached for another mascara since buying this one. I finally feel like I’ve found a mascara that gives me exactly the look I want, long lashes without clumps and I really like the fact that it’s blue as well!
The shiny tube caught my eye and made me stop and look at the Joe Fresh display in Shoppers Drug Mart. I wasn’t sure if this was a new product or just new packaging. Since I had never tried it out, I decided to pick up the colour Pecan for $12 CAD.
The packaging is quite lovely and sleek and I appreciate the screw on lid that won’t accidentally come off inside my purse. Pecan is a metallic nude colour that is sheer but at the same time has a good amount of colour and gloss. This balm is surprisingly long lasting and very comfortable to wear and it also has a light fruity smell. I’ve been loving this balm and will be going back to have a look at some other colours for sure! The only downside is that it rubs against the inside of the tube while using it and leaves some ridges on the product, not a big deal at all really, but I’d thought it was worth mentioning. I think I’ll have to have a closer look at some Joe Fresh products, it tends to be a brand I just pass by and if it wasn’t for the shiny tube, I might have missed out on this new favourite lip balm!
I was surprised to find my Topbox in my mailbox this month, I didn’t realize how far into April we are! Topbox has been doing a great job at providing its subscribers with some extras lately. It’s always fun to find a new product sample to try out!
I received a CoQ10 Caviar sheet mask, I always love to try these out, so I’m pleased. I received a Micellar Water by La Roche-Posay and have tried it out. It works well but I didn’t find it to be a game changer. A dry shampoo from Cake was also included, its smells like vanilla, but I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet.
A Laritzy Lip Pencil was in this month’s bag, its just not my colour, I’ll pass it along to someone. I assume that everyone received a Garnier Moisture Bomb sheet mask, so I’ll have another one to try out this week!
I also assume that everyone received a couple of trial samples of L’Oreal’s Hydra Genius. I did try one out, it’s similar to a couple of gel moisturizers currently on the market, I really like them, and I liked this product as well! Thanks Topbox, not a bad sampling this month and the “extras” are great!
When you try something new, sometimes it’s great and sometimes it isn’t. I’m not sure why, but I don’t like this product. The price (I’ve forgotten) is around the $10-$12 range CAD. I’ve always been a fan of Colorstay products but this one just missed the mark for me.
I bought the colour blonde, it’s not a bad colour, but I tend to prefer taupe eyebrow pencils for me. I really like the spoolie but I don’t like the shape and design of the pencil. The flat side applies light on my brows and if I’m looking for more definition and try to use the sharper tipped edge it looks darker somehow. I end up brushing most of it away with the spoolie trying to blend them both together. The pencil also drags a bit and sometimes retracts into the tube during use. I don’t think it’s a terrible product, I just think because of the design and or the colour, I just don’t like the look I get when I use it.
